Reddit downloader
Reddit Downloader
Reddit stores a hosted clip as two halves — a silent picture stream and a separate sound file. Paste the thread link and both are found, matched and handed back as one MP4 you can play anywhere.

What a Reddit link can give you
Everything below is read from the post itself — a signed-out visitor could see the same thing.
Hosted video
Clips uploaded straight to Reddit (v.redd.it), at each resolution the uploader's file allows.
Sound track
The separate audio half, offered as its own file when you only need what was said or played.
Looping clips
What Reddit labels a GIF is usually a short silent video; it arrives as a light MP4.
Crossposts
A post shared into another community points back to the original upload, and that upload is what you get.
App share links
The reddit.com/r/…/s/… links the mobile app copies are unfolded to the real thread first.
Stream copy
When Reddit also publishes an adaptive stream, it is listed next to the fixed-size files.
Why Reddit is different
One thread, many kinds of upload
A subreddit decides what its posts look like. Some are almost all hosted video, others lean on screenshots or outside links. The post type, not the community, decides what can be saved — so the result screen only lists what that particular thread really carries.
- r/videosMostly links out
- r/BeAmazedHosted clips
- r/awwShort pet videos
- r/gamingGameplay captures
- r/DamnthatsinterestingMixed media
- r/oddlysatisfyingSilent loops
What happens after you press Analyze
A hosted Reddit video is never a single file, which is why a plain right-click save often plays with no sound.
- 1
Thread is read
The post's public data gives the subreddit, the title and whether it holds a hosted clip or a crosspost.
- 2
Halves are found
Each picture rendition is located together with the sound file that belongs to it — Reddit keeps usually only one audio bitrate, so the one that truly exists is checked first.
- 3
One MP4 comes back
Picture and sound are joined without re-encoding. A clip that was uploaded silent stays silent, and is marked so.
Save a Reddit clip in three moves
Works the same from the desktop site, old.reddit and the phone app.
1. Copy the thread link
Use Share › Copy link in the app, or copy the address bar on the web. A comment permalink under the post also works.
2. Paste and analyze
Drop it in the box at the top of this page. Share links are expanded before anything else happens.
3. Pick a size
Choose the resolution with sound, the stream copy, or the audio file on its own.
Post types, honestly
Reddit posts come in several shapes. This is what the web tool does with each one today.
| Post type | What you get | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hosted video | MP4 with sound, several sizes | Sound is rejoined from Reddit's separate track |
| Silent clip / “GIF” | MP4, no audio track | Reddit converted the upload to video |
| Crosspost | The original upload | No need to hunt down the source thread |
| Audio only | AAC sound file | Only when the clip has sound at all |
| Outside link (YouTube, etc.) | Paste that link instead | The media lives on the other site |
| Image or gallery post | Not handled by the web tool | Open the image and save it from the browser |

Reddit downloading, answered
Why did my last Reddit download play with no sound?
Reddit serves picture and sound as separate files. Saving the video element directly only grabs the picture. Here the matching sound track is found and joined back into the MP4.
Does it work with the short links the app copies?
Yes. Links in the reddit.com/r/…/s/… form and redd.it short links are expanded to the full thread address before the post is read.
What if the post is a crosspost?
Paste the crosspost as it is. It points back to the original upload, and that original is what gets listed.
Can I download an NSFW or quarantined post?
Posts that ask a visitor to sign in or confirm their age are not readable signed-out, so the web tool cannot open them.
Can I save Reddit image galleries?
Not with the web tool at the moment. Image and gallery posts can be opened in the browser and saved image by image.
Is the quality reduced?
No. Files are taken as Reddit stores them and joined without re-encoding, so the ceiling is whatever the uploader sent — often 720p or 1080p.
Do I need a Reddit account?
No. Public posts are read the way a signed-out visitor sees them, and nothing is posted or voted from your side.
